Yoga for Beginners

Yoga for Beginners —

From Disconnection to Deep Knowing

Our Most Popular Course at Alligator Yoga, with Virginia Hill

Build a potent foundation of classical  yoga practices so you finally feel your unique power & poignant importance in this wondrous world – in 8 marvelous weeks.

This is for those of us who feel a little freaked out that – yes! – aging is real, your body has moved from whispering to YELLING at you, so you KNOW you need to take better care of yourself.

But you tend to put everyone ELSE first, and there seems to be no energy left for YOU.

You get a bolt of excitement when you hear about the health benefits and also the mysterious magic of yoga – your whole system knows it’s true!

But right now, yoga feels intimidating, complicated, or too hard to do in your already tired body and overwhelmed nervous system. THIS will change all that.

In just 8 weeks, you’ll go from Disconnection to Deep Knowing because you’ll…

Remember to pause and breathe so you respond calmly – and get better results! – when that co-worker or teenager flatly refuses to admit they didn’t honor your agreements.

Stop over-riding your body’s messages, and allow yourself true rest – and know JUST how to do it, and FAST, so you feel regenerated and ready to go out with your friends or stay truly present and savor a sunset with your boo or walk with your fur babies.

Find yourself playfully doing things you previously avoided – cleaning that garage, returning to the flowerbed, scheduling that massage,  or dancing around the house to your favorite jam!

Say YES to those compelling invites you previously declined – beach dates, river runs, school plays, walks with neighbors – because your body no longer aches and you finally feel beautiful and at home in your precious body.

Wake up listing all the things, people, circumstances, and possibilities for which you sense profound appreciation – including all of your past selves and decisions – and you bring that joy into your day, newly fueling tasks, events, and relationships.

These are the precious fruits of yoga so often felt but rarely talked about. Come experience for yourself the surprising changes a strong foundation of yogic practices will bring you.

Does this sound FAMILIAR?

  • You feel like you’re dragging your body through life, and really desire to feel strong and buoyant again.
  • You want to prioritize your well-being, but somehow keep putting it off. Meanwhile, that hip keeps you up at night, and that knee feels unstable at the MOST inconvenient times, and you’re so tired you reach for the comfort food.
  • Those family events you’ve soooo been looking forward to finally come, but you end up so busy or exhausted (or both!) that this precious time together whizzes by as you seem to just be going through the motions. After it’s all done, you wonder – Where was my head really at?
  • You’re a little guilty of doom-scrolling or getting angry at the news, and you know that is not the best way to build the future and receive the miracles in your life that you dearly want.
  • You lie awake going over and over what you said in that social situation or tricky conversation, and spin those wheels wondering how it could have gone differently, even though you deeply desire to stand by what you know is important, without apologies or regret.
  • You’ve always been intensely intuitive and spiritual, but it goes by the wayside — you yearn for an inspired structure that feels real, Embodied. Sacred without being rigid. Deep without being fluffy. Full of potential.

Maybe you’ve tried yoga before and walked away feeling… confused, sore, invisible, or left behind.

Maybe you’ve spent years caring for others, working hard, showing up — and now, your body feels like an afterthought and your energy like a candle burned down.

Or maybe you’re just beginning — and you want to start right: With a yoga practice that nourishes your nervous system, strengthens your body, and uplifts your spirit.

✨ Welcome! You’re in just right place.

What You’ll Experience –

Each week, you’ll be guided through a full-spectrum class — gentle movement, breathwork, mantra & mudra (no worries – these will be defined & explained), inner inquiry, and deep relaxation — drawing from the authentic teachings of the Himalayan tradition, rooted in lasting wisdom and contemporary embodiment methods.

You’ll learn all about and -more importantly – PLAY with these yogic methods:

Āsana (yoga postures); breath training and breath awareness, prāṇāyāma (breath extension); systematic relaxation, mudrās (energetic seals – especially for the hands); pratyāhāra (focusing inwards); meditation; self-reflection, contemplation, and more.

You DON’T need any prior experience

just that nudge of interest and desire to feel better. Even if you’re an expert yoga practitioner, tons of folks take my beginners’ series to enhance their basics and polish their moves – or simply to continue to deepen your curiosity and practice, no matter where it’s at.

Come receive tons of demonstrations, guidance, and practice, so you:

  • Build strength and stability with ease, so that everyday movements feel spacious and even fun.

  • Explore spiritual teachings in a practical, poetic way, so that wisdom isn’t just theory — it becomes your lived experience. You no longer scold yourself, but feel the budding of deep self-compassion, so those thought worms disperse and a sweet inner confidence takes its place so you get on with your day AND start noticing all that is WELL in your life and community.
  • Awaken your energy, intuition, and inner listening, so that you can trust yourself more deeply, no longer wasting time and attention towards regrets.
  • Restore a sense of sovereignty in your body and clarity in your choices. You’ll find yourself no longer second-guessing decisions or lingering on your mistakes, granting yourself the grace and understanding you’ve given everyone else all these years.
  • Lean into the support of a caring, expert teacher and an inspiring, like-hearted community — because healing is serious magic, leading to the light-hearted expansion and thriving of YOUR perfectly imperfect life!

  • You want instant results without exploring the root causes of what’s stuck.
  • You need to enforce rigid rules and make sure everyone else does the same.

If you’re curious about yoga, I’m delighted you’ve found this page (and amazed you read this far – thank you!).  I’m Virginia Hill, the passionate momentum behind AHA Yoga, and I have dedicated myself to teaching yoga because it has changed my life and those of my students.

Simply put, yoga WORKS.  It is indeed a practice, which means it requires curiosity and the willingness to try – again and again – so we cultivate an ever-increasing understanding not just of yoga, but ourselves and why we are here.

The deepest benefits can work cumulative, surprising, and lasting change.  Though I have practiced yoga for over 25 years, it took almost ten years before I found the teacher and routine just right for me so that it could become a part of my daily life. I KNOW HOW TO GET YOU MORE IMMEDIATE TRANSFORMATION! You need it now; and the world needs YOU, now.

Suddenly, as my practice became more integrated and well-rounded, I experienced what even the simplest yogic techniques have to offer:   Yoga encourages physical mobility and comfort and, most importantly, offers a disciplined, creative use of a now peaceful mind.  It is a way to heal, and also reach your greater potential.

It’s with this knowledge and visceral, energetic experience that I created this beginners’ series, so that each student can experiment and feel confident in the basics, understand how and why yoga works, and choose which practices are needed at just the right time and for the most pleasant results.  Yoga can only be known through such experience.  Come find out more and experience this for yourself by joining this specially designed Yoga for Beginners – From Disconnection to Deep Knowing. After you complete these 8 weeks, you’ll feel confident walking into any yoga class. And you’ll likely feel like you started a WHOLE NEW CHAPTER, moving from your authentic presence and power more consistently, so you can live a life you love, with lasting JOY.

What do you receive each session?

Each week, you have the option of a BONUS GIFT:  Start with a few moments one-on-one with your teacher to breathe, center, and connect. This is a full energy attunement, so you are ready to receive the most benefits of our time together. You contemplate what in your life you are ready to leave behind, and what you want to cultivate. Known as a “Gating Ceremony,” this personal moment helps release mental & energetic burdens, as you become more focused and better resourced to foster your best self. You’ll also gain quick insight and individualized help, guidance, and practices to release burdens and regain a sense of openness.

This is also an opportunity for a few moments to yourself in a rich environment, if you desire. Others use this time to connect with the kindred members of our vibrant community.

Then we begin our group together time with a centering exercise to soothe the mind & connect to the breath for a better and more profound practice. You hear and feel how mantra, – traditional sacred sound to mark time and space and set intention. It shifts our energy inward, and helps you attune to how you are feeling and connect to innate wisdom.

You’ll get the game plan for the day, the delve into  warm-ups that sync the breath and movement, and ease-ful yet stimulating routines ensure the safety and stability of joints.

Each class you will be introduced to new “Poses of the Week” where you are taught yoga postures slowly and in detail, and learn how to make each pose gentler or more challenging for your body.  Each of these is demonstrated, practiced, and repeated for any questions.  We’ll also return to various practices over time, often reviewing techniques from the previous week, so these motions become accessible and ease-ful, happy habits

This empowers you to really get a feel for them in your body and these new movements and stretches feel more natural and worthwhile.

You also receive a PDF study sheet each week in our online portal, with pictures, names of postures, and tips to help you remember and inspire you to practice at home.

You will complete this course with a well-rounded knowledge AND experience of foundational postures AND many creative variations–simple ways to make each position more accessible, challenging, or refined for what your specific body needs and to address different focal points and goals.  Such variations are especially helpful because your needs always change over time, and depend upon your environment, routine activities, and what you aim to accomplish.  You will complete the course with a firm understanding of how to gently yet effectively adjust your body, thoughts, and movements to regulate your physical habits and nervous system, all so you have the simple, do-able tools you need to access more of your best self each day.

We’ll also have fun with yoga props such as blocks, bolsters, blankets, sand weights, pillows, and straps.  You will learn how and why each is used, and how adding yoga props to your practice refines your alignment and makes your physical sensations more comfortable or challenging so your yoga is the most beneficial it can be.  You will also learn what basic household items you can use at home for the same results.

Trust your choice to commit to your yoga practice, and you will find out why yogis famously tout, “Practice and all is coming.

Each session, we meet at our beautiful, serene space at 305 East Duval Street, Suite 101, in Lake City Florida.  Ample parking is steps away form the front door, and additional public parking is available across the street on Duval.  Great care has been put into this course as well as the design and maintenance of this studio space – even fresh flowers! – and yoga props so that it is an inviting, nurturing container for you to explore and develop your own inner capacities.

Before each session, the space is energetically prepared with sacred mantra, so your practice can regenerate and heal you on all layers of being.

BRING YOUR YOGA MAT to each session.  All other yoga props are provided, though you are welcome to bring your own should you prefer.
