This month’s Awaken to Joy dives into the master practice of agni sāra — your inner essence of the fire of life.

When agni is sluggish, everything in life feels heavy. It becomes hard to distinguish what is yours to do, or someone else’s lingering clutter.

When agni is sharp and steady, the body feels ready, the mind brightens, and even ordinary moments become luminous with possibility. We see with fresh eyes, and have the energy to move forward with purpose and inspiration.

 

Here’s ALL the details…



We begin with gentle, floor-based warmups to activate pelvic and abdominal connection — the foundation for balance that’s not rigid, but stable, supple, and alive.

What seems super simple becomes the central support for moving freely, tending & training the physical body for deeply-rooted balance from the inside out.


Next, we’ll work simple supine twists and leg lifts,  to loosen up and strengthen the spine, while also waking up four layers of abdominals. This ignites the maṇipūra, or “city of gems,” the energy center connected to the solar plexus, which activates discernment, motivation, and aspirations.

We’ll play with variations of classic postures for both challenge and ease — gaining direct experience of where the center of our metabolic wisdom calls for attention, and how integration leads to genuine, lasting vitality.


Then, you’ll move to a fluid, fun standing sequence. Come explore lesser-known gems like Capāsana (Sugarcane Bow Pose), Nṛtta Gaṇapati (Dancing Boy Ganesha), and a standing version of Agni-stambhāsana (Firelog).

These rare postures add delight, dimension, and deeper inner access — helping you break habitual energetic patterns

You’ll feel firsthand what it is like to tap into your innate creativity and do the things you’ve avoided out of fear, fatigue, or playing small to get along. 


This physical focus becomes a gateway toward expanded perception — inner and outer —while also highlighting apperception, the thought patterns that often quietly drive us. Noticing shifts in inner feedback turns into meditative movement, uniting the mind & its vessel.


You’ll develop subtle sensitivity to the state of your inner fire — the quiet fluctuations that determine whether energy is available or leaking away. Instead of letting that flame dull into lethargy or scatter into restlessness, you’ll learn to track its changes, raise its intensity, and direct its power.


You’ll move and grow through standing yoga flows that incorporate tons of twists to speed digestion and boost assimilation of the inner nourishment you need so you feel energized. As agni builds and coalesces, it incinerates inner obstacles and increases your access to awakened prāṇa. Your efforts gather momentum instead of dispersing, and the body begins to circulate energy in a way that encourages stamina and a more intentional way of moving through the new year.


Most importantly, we’ll learn the master practice of agni sāra. Both a prāṇāyāma (breath extension) and kriyā (cleansing action), it teaches you how to kindle the fire at the navel center and engage the deep abdominal muscles that govern energetic metabolism. This practice burns away the sluggishness that accumulates from stress, overeating, or emotional heaviness. Agni sāra fortifies the system from the inside out, helping you to feel renewed aliveness that fuels one-pointed attention, now harnessed toward meaningful – and joyful! – action.


 

Having gotten the fire in the belly vigorously moving, we’ll then shift into gentler breathing techniques that gather and circulate your refined fuel. You’ll practice traditional nāḍī shodhana to build JOY, alongside lesser-known tantric techniques to clear away subtle congestion of the energetic body. Your focus will be guided inward to support nervous system balance and enhance your access to subtle pulsations. You’ll explore profound yoga philosophy through the light of three nāḍīs — rivers of life force inherent within your being, now even more illuminated with the radiant fire of your inner intelligence . 

 

Merging practice and philosophy – our specialty here at AHA Yoga – helps you better understand and embolden latent energy pathways of your mind and potentials for peace. You’ll move toward an inner recalibration that makes it easier to stop absorbing everyone else’s stress, get through the day without crashing, and follow through on the things you’ve been putting off.

Combining body, breath, and prāṇic (energy) awareness harmonizes your inner battles and gathers your scattered life force — so you access your truest wisdom and feel inspired.

From this place of deep relaxation, meditation arises — not as effort, but as a return to your natural state of freedom. You find the quiet, nourishing pools of consciousness and joy that have always been within you, just waiting to be accessed.


From here, everything shifts: you return to your precious life able to be present rather than reactive. You start hearing your own intuitive voice again.  You feel steady enough to organize your day around what truly matters, and bring more of your real self into your relationships, your work, and your everyday choices — like taking time for forest walks, reaching out to a friend you’ve been missing, or finally getting started on that creative idea you scribbled in your notebook three months ago.

If you’re curious about yoga, I’m delighted you’ve found this page (and amazed you read this far – thank you!).  I’m Virginia Hill, the passionate momentum behind AHA Yoga, and I have dedicated myself to teaching yoga because it has changed my life and those of my students. 

Simply put, yoga WORKS.  It is indeed a practice, which means it requires curiosity and the willingness to try – again and again – so we cultivate an ever-increasing understanding not just of yoga, but ourselves and why we are here.

The deepest benefits can work cumulative, surprising, and lasting change.  Though I have practiced yoga for over 25 years, it took almost ten years before I found the teacher and routine just right for me so that it could become a part of my daily life. I KNOW HOW TO GET YOU MORE IMMEDIATE TRANSFORMATION! You need it now; and the world needs YOU, now.

Suddenly, as my practice became more integrated and well-rounded, I experienced what even the simplest yogic techniques have to offer:   Yoga encourages physical mobility and comfort and, most importantly, offers a disciplined, creative use of a now peaceful mind.  It is a way to heal, and also reach your greater potential. 

It’s with this knowledge and visceral, energetic experience that I created this Saturday morning session that focuses on the central channel, so that each student can explore the deeper dimensions of yoga that are rarely taught in quick classes.

Yoga is an integrative practice that nourishes our being on all levelsfrom physical to subtle to spiritual – and it is THIS integration that AWAKENS US TO JOY!

COMPLIMENTARY ENERGY ATTUNEMENT – 

 
DOORS OPEN AN HOUR EARLY FOR INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS! Prior to the group instruction, each student receives a one-on-one energetic check-in with your teacher, Virginia. This individualized attention gives you time and support to ground, get really present, and see and be seen. This is called a “Gating Ceremony,” and it helps you focus your mind, leave behind burdensome thoughts and tension, and, instead, gather your energies to focus on & nurture your well-being. It is a rare opportunity to really connect with an empathic person highly trained in holding space; in a hectic world that is often structured for disconnection, this is often a remedy. Plus, it makes the rest of our collective time together more potent!
 
 

OPENING OF SACRED CIRCLE – 

To honor the vast lineage that transmits and intensifies our practice, every group session opens with a sacred Sanskrit mantra to foster togetherness and hone our attention. You’ll be provided the English translation, so your heart and mind understand how we mark time and place to honor, refine, and collectively amplify our efforts, and welcome peaceful, shared, and rich practice
 
 

 



As always, we’ll also have fun with yoga props such as blocks, bolsters, blankets, sand weights, pillows, and straps.  You will learn how and why each is used, and how adding yoga props to your practice refines your alignment and makes your physical sensations more comfortable or challenging so your yoga is the most beneficial it can be.  

For those with restricted mobility OR those healing from illness or injuries, modified postures will also be provided in a chair, if needed.

This Saturday session meets at the beautiful, serene home of Alligator Yoga, right on the shore of Lake DeSoto, at 305 East Duval Street, Suite 101, in Lake City Florida.  Ample parking is steps away form the front door, and additional public parking is available across the street.  

Great care has been put into this course as well as the design and maintenance of this studio space – even fresh flowers! – and props so that it is an inviting, nurturing container for you to explore and develop your own inner capacities.

Before each session, the space is energetically prepared with sacred mantra, so your practice can better regenerate and heal you on all layers of being.

BRING YOUR YOGA MAT to each session.  All other yoga props are provided, though you are welcome to bring your own should you prefer.
