🌰 What is ROOT WISDOM and how does it help?

In tantric subtle-body teachings of yoga, the kanda, or “root wisdom,” is understood as a bulb-like center located near the lower energy channels of the abdomen. From here, the vital life force (prāṇa) radiates throughout the entire energetic body, through the suṣumṇā – the major midline route circulating joy, grace, and vigor throughout your whole system.

🌰This course is built on three living capacities:

Strengthmuscular, grounded, physical, including all four layers of abdominals, plus enhanced awareness of thoughts and harnessing vibrant emotions;
Stability nervous system regulation and breath-centered movement, rooted presence through a supported pelvis and mobilized hips, alongside advanced tantric practices to discern what is yours and lay aside unnecessary burdens;
Self-Trustreclaiming your heartfelt desires, reconnecting to divine support and guidance, all leading aligned action, so your body, heart, mind, and spirit are finally amplified by coherence.

Through lots of supine legwork and abdominal activations, standing yoga flows that open and expand your energy, and invigorating breath techniques, you’ll break habitual energetic patterns and craft your body-mind so it serves your innermost, expansive potentials

You’ll add long holds spiced with nuanced attention for physical refinement, building not only muscle and mobility, but also perceptual expansion, all leading towards to inner awakening.

 

 

🌰ROOT WISDOM explicitly works with the three lower ćakrās:

(Pronounced STRONGLY, like “CHO-colate,” not flimsy like “Shock-rah” – such details matter for maximum impact!)

These are “wheels,” or vortices of energy exchange.

The Kanda, or root bulb of energy potential, encompasses three specific power centers:

Mūlādhāra — Root

Stable foundations. Grounded presence. Standing fully in yourself. Protections and provisions for all you need for success. The ability to endure as well as release. Anatomically: Feet, legs, colon, and especially the inner and outer thighs, and buttocks.

Svādhiṣṭhāna — Sacral

Vitality. Sacred Desire. Creativity. Connection. Community. Capacity to receive. Trust. Tastefulness. Emotional attunement. Ability to go with the flow, and shift as needed. The power of change and wise intuition. Anatomically: Hips, pelvic floor hammock muscles, lower abdominals, lumbar spine, sacrum and all its basin organs. 

Maṇipūra — Solar Plexus

Intention. Discernment. Inner fire. Willpower. Resilience. Refinement. Purpose. Drive. Inspired Ambition. Fortitude and reliability. Winning instincts evolving with increasing rationality. Strength of Character. Anatomically: Solar plexus and especially transversus abdominals, stomach, liver, all digestive functions and power of fire.

Together, we move the abstraction of yoga philosophy into a lived reality of felt sense. You’ll train these three energy centers through:

  • Lunging drills that build grounded leg strength;
  • Subtle pelvic floor activation that builds a robust yet relaxed vessel;
  • Psoas lengthening that alleviates mental-emotional strain and lower back discomfort, while also restoring integrity;
  • Progressive yoga flows sequenced to engage your awareness of subtle signals, while simultaneously increasing your sense of the body in space your overall mobility;
  • Abdominal refinement that protects the body and sharpens discernment;
  • Breath training for optimizing breathing, as well as advanced breathing methods clear the mind, and fuel and circulate essential energy.

Most strikingly – though subtle – we’ll learn the master practice of agni sāra. Both a prāṇāyāma (breath extension) and kriyā (cleansing action), it teaches you how to kindle the fire at the navel center and engage the deep abdominal muscles that govern the entire lower 3 energy centers. This practice burns away the sluggishness that accumulates from stress, overeating, or emotional heaviness. Agni sāra fortifies the system from the inside out, helping you to feel renewed aliveness that fuels one-pointed attention, now harnessed toward meaningful – and joyful! – action. This subtle practice also lets the power of the lower body serve the higher and heightening roles of the upper energy centers. Not only does it make the body healthy and lasting, it also ensures your precious life elevates to all the splendor you are meant to receive.

Having gotten your core fit and the fire in the belly activated, we’ll also include mind-clearing activity such as Kapālabhāti, to do away with habitual, negative thought patterns and congestion in the subtle energy layer. Then we’ll employ vigorous breathing methods – such as the classical Bhastrikā as well as Anuloma Viloma and more. These breath extension techniques require more masterful use of the abdomen, the precise regions intentionally cultivated in ROOT WISDOM.

These slightly more intense breath practices yield increased energy, focus, and contentment. 

You start to access your own inner illumination, through the self-effulgent fire of your innermost intelligence.

Of course, committed to the deepest aspects of yogic methods, we’ll close each session with systematic relaxation, to tune and tend all the marma sthānas, the vital crossroads of energy in your body that keep your strength and fire headed in the right direction. We’ll close with simple yet poignant meditation in the Himalayan tradition, time-tested techniques that not only soothe and refine the mind, but also enhance access to perceptual possibilities your thinking mind and social conditioning had not yet recognized.

Throughout the entire arc of this crescendo of practice, you build intelligent, purifying heat in the body-mind, so that your lively energy potentials naturally escort you on your path toward your divine purpose and the power of trustful surrender. This combination of more external physical methods alongside relaxation and meditation for modern life, are truly the space where science and spirituality meet. DOORS OPEN AN HOUR EARLY FOR INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS! Prior to the group instruction, each student receives a one-on-one energetic check-in with your teacher, Virginia. This individualized attention gives you time and support to ground, get really present, and see and be seen. This is called a “Gating Ceremony,” and it helps you focus your mind, leave behind burdensome thoughts and tension, and, instead, gather your energies to focus on & nurture your well-being. It is a rare opportunity to really connect with an empathic person highly trained in holding space; in a hectic world that is often structured for disconnection, this is often a remedy. Moreover, it makes the rest of our collective time together more potent!
 
 

OPENING OF SACRED CIRCLE – 

To honor the vast lineage that transmits and intensifies our practice, every group session opens with a sacred Sanskrit mantra to foster togetherness and hone our attention. You’ll be provided the English translation, so your heart and mind understand how we mark time and place to honor, refine, and collectively amplify our efforts, and welcome peaceful, shared, and rich practice
 
 

 



As always, we’ll also have fun with yoga props such as blocks, bolsters, blankets, sand weights, pillows, and straps.  You will learn how and why each is used, and how adding yoga props to your practice refines your alignment and makes your physical sensations more comfortable or challenging so your yoga is the most beneficial it can be.  

ROOT WISDOM meets at the beautiful, serene home of Alligator Yoga, right on the shore of Lake DeSoto, at 305 East Duval Street, Suite 101, in Lake City Florida.  Ample parking is steps away form the front door, and additional public parking is available across the street.  

Great care has been put into this course as well as the design and maintenance of this studio space – even fresh flowers! – and props so that it is an inviting, nurturing container for you to explore and develop your own inner capacities.

Before each session, the space is energetically prepared with sacred mantra, so your practice can better regenerate and heal you on all layers of being.

BRING YOUR YOGA MAT to each session.  All other yoga props are provided, though you are welcome to bring your own should you prefer.
