All levels welcome, including complete beginners.
Invite the dawning of more joy…
through postures, repetitions, breathwork, systematic relaxation, contemplation, & simple meditation.
In addition to delightful and challenging yoga flows, as well as long holds for length and relief, you’ll also gently shift mental habits, what yoga calls the kleshas or “colorings” that cloud perspectives & dull your happiness.
Yoga clears these obstacles and reveals latent potentials that unwind when body and mind coordinate and serve your most expansive wisdom and best life. This process encourages you to feel more spacious, steady, & deeply at home within yourself.
Experience firsthand how yoga restores the body & emboldens your innate capacity for presence, resilience, & radiant freedom.
What is YOGA FOR FREEDOM and how does it help?
Happiness sometimes seems out of reach. Yogic training heals and maintains the body, yet its scope is far greater. It also clears the veils of confusion and distraction, while expanding the treasures within the mind.
Unwind the patterns that hold you back—so strength, ease, and clarity begin to support your life from within.

How to know if YOGA for FREEDOM Is For You:
You recognize the pattern –
You know what would support you and feel drawn toward it.
More presence, spacious movement, steadier core, rest that actually leaves you recharged.
You want to stay connected to what’s going on inside as you move through your days.
And yet, something always seems to interrupt what you need.
The mind spins. The body tightens. To-do lists grow.
Doom scrolling happens. Old reactions rise faster than your deeper knowing.
You want more time to breathe, notice, and actually be in your life.
Instead, you find yourself pushing through the day, holding it all together.
In conversations, you find yourself holding back. Or second-guessing what you said or really wanted to say. Maybe you look at your started projects, or look forward to family time but somehow it flies by in a fog.
You care deeply—about your life, your people, your home, the world itself.
You know that somewhere under the weight of everything, your shimmer is still there. But often, it feels just out of reach, murky, and overwhelmed under the weight of it all.

In yoga, these deeply human patterns are called the kleshas—the subtle forces that cloud perception, beliefs, and priorities. It’s like trying to get through an intricate forest covered in dense mist. These coverings shape our reactions, and surreptitiously pull us out of alignment with our own steadiness, brightness, and joy.
These tendencies are not flaws or personal failures.
They’ve simply been repeated, woven into the body, mind, and the way we’ve adapted to a complex, full, and demanding life. But bindings can be unraveled…
Because these are patterns of the movement of mind, they can be rerouted and even transformed.
If you’re ready to clear the fog that obscures your happiness, Strength & Release – Yoga for Freedom is for you.

Through yogic practice, permeated with pointed and skillful attention, these clouds begin to soften and disperse. The grip loosens. Heaviness lightens. Space returns. You start to recognize when you are about to override yourself.
You discover you have another choice. In fact, many options. Often surprisingly bright, with immense openness.
This is where freedom begins.

I’m Virginia Hill, a deeply attuned teacher and lifelong learner, who’s been teaching for thirty years, devoted to yoga practice for over two decades, and guiding yoga students full-time for the last ten years. So I can tell you from direct experience and embodied understanding:
Beneath your agitation and stagnation, hidden under the deep layers of disappointment or even exasperation,
there is a burning spark of your innate, intelligent life force, rich with wisdom, beauty and possibility.
YOGA FOR FREEDOM is an 8-week container crafted to help you build endurance and spaciousness in your body, while also attending to the more nuanced aspects of yoga and life. Together, we’ll study the colorings that often conceal your natural state of connection and contentment. This yogic approach trains your body and mind to move towards meaningful and joyful wholeness.
This course helps you stop trying to force change and, instead, gently and consistently provides reflections to remove what blocks your natural vitality.
These habitual colorings show up as:
- tension in the body that never quite releases
- overthinking and self-doubt
- taking time out, but not feeling refreshed
- grasping for what feels good, avoiding what feels hard
- the sense that you’re not fully living from your own center
- nagging fear of loss.
These wind into your nervous system, your posture, your breath, your way of being.
Because they impact your body, this is where your practice starts. The body becomes the subtle portal to address the deepest foundations that can be freed for the wellspring of abiding, tender happiness to flow.

In Strength & Release: Yoga for Freedom, the body helps us notice patterns of mind.
Each week your practice will feature:
- Stretches bolstered with curiosity to get really present and lean into what your body says and needs;
- Breath-centered movements for powerful mobility throughout mobile joints, glands, and circulation;
- Yoga flows, shifting from pose to pose, following the energetic power of breathing;
- Strength-building repetitions and progressive challenges;
- Accessible variations and ways to make each move uniquely yours;
- Playful balance postures and unexpected innovations for levity and laughter;
- Feel-good stretches and incremental release;
And much more…
You’ll begin to:
- Recognize what things you tend to ignore, and what pulls you off course;
- Interrupt internal habits, as thoughts slow, soften, and reorganize;
- Build strength in the places that have been under-supporting you;
- Allow what has been overworking to finally let go.
- Sense tension to use it wisely;
- Feel a new sense of space, making new movements possible;
- Notice a growing ability to choose your response, instead of reacting;
- Allow what has been overworking to finally let go.
Your body will gradually feel lighter, more capable, more relaxed.
Your thoughts and emotions become more open open and free.
Your energy gently illumines when and where you need it, naturally, sustainably.

YOGA for FREEDOM is not about pushing harder or making more demands:
It is about learning how to work intelligently, so effort and ease begin to support each other.
Each session meets you fully, in a complete, immersive experience. We begin with mantra and intentional attunement, gathering your scattered energy and focusing your attention, so your practice becomes more potent from the very first breath.
You slow the rush, gather the scattered forces, and really arrive.

From there, we’ll move through a pleasant arc that enhances your well-being:
- Thoughtful warm-ups that awaken the body and sharpen mental focus .
- Progressive yoga flows that build strength, coordination, and confidence week by week .
- Targeted strength-building repetitions—refined, purposeful, and integrated into the yoga flows—to retrain how your body organizes effort and release.
- Intentional use of breath and tension (including breath retention), so you learn how to build and release effort consciously. What previously worked against you now serves you well.
- Guided systematic relaxation, so you permeate all that embodied wisdom into and through precise energy points, so your healing and thriving integrates the subtle anatomy as well as the physical form. Body-mind becomes receptive and intuitive, tuned into the radiant source of power.
- Meditation practices coupled with specific paths of visualization and self-inquiry redirect your attention and expand your awareness.
Each meeting is designed not just to exercise and stretch the body, but also change how you experience your innermost self.

This is more than a routine class; it’s a different depth of practice.
You are not asked to perform or compete. You’re invited into a space where you are seen, supported, and gently guided back to your own innate wisdom, beauty, and radiance. Strength and release usher in Freedom.
Your course resources extend beyond the weekly studio time. Each week, you’ll also receive:
- a simple, one-page study guide to anchor the lesson;
- a short, repeatable practice you can return to at home (in under two minutes);
- optional reflection and journaling prompts for those who want to go deeper.
This is time and space that amplifies the rest of your life.

THE MAP OF YOUR 8-WEEK JOURNEY,
Liberating Patterns, Increasing Possibility:
Each session explores one of the kleshas, the old tendencies that veil our innate nature and thus cloud our happiness. It also provides time-tested yogic techniques to place you back on your rightful path towards purpose and joy. You’ll move from theory into something you can feel, recognize, and shift within yourself:
(Click each arrow below for a week-by-week program, with tons of enticing details!)
Week 1: Roots of Suffering and Cultivating Freedom + Lower Body Strength & Endurance Flow
We illuminate the colorings that hide happiness. We ponder the 5 habits of mind that keep us cycling through the same frustrations and limitations. Rather than treating these as problems to fix, we approach them as a natural part of the gift of human life, and as invitations to understand and honor our experience. Through simple, steady stretches, you’ll begin to recognize how these tendencies impact bodily sensations too. With awareness comes space for options. We’ll explore how we can reverse engineer breathing patterns to shift mood and thus make room for fresh ideas. This lays the foundation for a more skillful, compassionate relationship with yourself, your experience, and the intense beauty of life itself.
Physically, you’ll start with a gentle warm-up stretches that explore the hip flexors, then move to hands and knees, and up to a slow yet rigorous flow, including squats, toe balances, power lunges, lunge switches, and more. Close with a long, guided systematic relaxation that teaches the body-mind to lean into tension for even more profound release.
Week 2: Seeing Clearly Again – Lessening Avidyā + Upper Body Build & Release Flow
Societal conditioning and also old memories often taint our capacity to discern what’s true and good for us. We see through expectations and old news, even though vast and new possibilities are available. This session helps remove the dust that colors and cloaks the truth, including the beauty, wisdom, and power held within, a lovely essence that is never tainted by the mess, ups-and-downs, or painful challenges of life.
You’ll return to supportive warm-ups, then play with yoga flows full of upper-body repetitions. Get ready for climbers, then move into quick bursts of high-intensity “climbers” and plank variations and more. You’ll learn to love knee-hovers and kick throughs. Then peel away any residual tightness with a breath wave exercise for a profoundly healing relaxation practice.
Week 3: Loosening the Grip of Worn Out Roles: Softening Asmitā + Core Strength Flow
Just as our bodies get rigid from repetition, lack of balance, and constraints of tightness, when we grip our identities or hold onto roles we’ve outgrown, the mind itself throws tantrums and forces these into the driver’s seat. Week three opens the body-mind, so it remembers to hold life lightly, surrender demands for impossible and harmful control, and eases into receptivity and appreciation.
Continue welcoming warm-ups, and prepare for a short yet-potent core strength flow. It will build on previous lessons, adding more warrior balances and boat pose variations, with a sprinkle of “fore essence” or agni sara, to dive deep into abdominals layer by later. You’ll wind down with a luscious supine hip-flexor stretch before concluding in a soft, supported inversion leading into quiet relaxation.
Week 4: Finding Peace & Possibility through the In-Between – Rāga & Dveṣa
The mind often drags and depletes body, ping-ponging back and forth between craving and resistance, desiring and despising. Well-being resides in a masterful navigation between yes and no. You’ll be introduced to the concept and experience of homeo-dynamism, a gentler process akin to homeostasis. Through explorations of edges and balance, that which is pleasurable and comfortable, and that which is not, you’ll shift toward fluid serenity and cheerful stability.
This session is all about slow stretches and feel-good simple pressure paired with softness, exploring reciprocal inhibition. You’ll find challenge in many dynamic balance poses, then pause and center in tons of child pose variations and other weight-bearing melts. Get ready for some foot stretches and releases, side stretches in downdog, and long holds in wide floor lunches. You’ll relish a restorative shoulder and hip opener, then pour into a guided systematic relaxation that clear power points. We’ll close with gentle breathwork to foster balance physically, mentally, and energetically.
Week 5: Soothing Fear and Deep Holding: Abhiniveśa
Fear often hides beneath the surface: guarding, hesitation, or a sense of bracing against life. This deep holding can drain vitality and narrow our sense of what is possible. We’ll gently unwind these patterns through grounding postures, as well as self-havening and nervous system support to build trust in both body and breath. As the grip of fear softens, a steadier inner resources begin to emerge, allowing you to move forward with greater ease, resilience, and quiet courage.
You’ll build more strength with ongoing yoga flows, now coupled with rich pauses full of gentle nervous system relief – self massage, neck vibration, twists, and more. You’ll return to a tension-release relaxation, followed by pranayama (breath extension) and a guided meditation and visualization, to acknowledge the clinging without granting it fresh energy. The witness consciousness softly dawns in the reawakened spaciousness.
Week 6: Cultivating Wisdom and Beauty – Refining the Mind
As the more obvious patterns begin to loosen, we turn toward refinement — how the mind can be trained with and as clarity, consistency, and care. This week introduces the yogic model of model, divulging four functions. This model helps us see how attention shapes experience, and how small shifts in awareness can create profound changes in how you relate to yourself and the world, far beyond what regular thinking insists.
Through more yoga flows emphasizing hips, upper body, and core, you’ll continue to feel the power of a firm foundation and also use breath awareness to tune into what’s most alive in you, awakened prana (life force). In addition to systematic relaxation, you’ll experience a subtle point-to-point and cycling breath-awareness meditation to tune into the energies that lie beneath. Combined with focused inquiry, you’ll begin to cultivate a mind that is both discerning and appreciative — capable of seeing more clearly, choosing more wisely, and loving more expansively.
Week 7: Turning Toward Well-Being – Meditation in Practice
With greater brightness and steadiness established, we deepen into the practice of turning inward. Meditation here is not separate from life, but an extension of the awareness you’ve been building all along. You’ll explore accessible approaches to settling the mind, observing patterns without entanglement, and resting in a more continuous sense of presence. This week invites a direct experience of well-being that is not dependent on circumstances, but arises from within.
You’ll expand yoga flows and strengthening drills, exploring contrasts of load and lightness, effort and rest. This leads into forceful breathwork to enhance deepening relaxation. You’ll experience firsthand how the mind wanders, and also how the vibration of mantra provides a guide it to return, fueling and serving the wisdom of the heart.
Week 8: Being Present, Becoming Presence – Living from Clarity & Compassion
In our final week, we integrate and remind ourselves that no practice is ever lost; even a little effort moves mountains. As the layers of conditioning soften and fade, what remains is a coherent, robust presence that can more fully meet life with insight, openness, and tenderness. This session weaves together the physical, mental, and subtle aspects of practice, helping you recognize how these shifts carry into your daily life. You’ll leave with a felt sense of how to continue — living with greater awareness, responding with intention, and contributing to the world from a place of friendliness and compassion.

Each week builds on the last—but you’ll feel better after the very first class. You can also take single sessions if that works best for you.
You are lovingly guided start to finish—no prior yoga experience is needed. It’s a choice you’ll be so very glad you made, and feel proud of what you accomplish.

What becomes possible through YOGA for FREEDOM:
You wake up with more energy, plus a quiet sense of enthusiasm.
You notice things again: light, color, sound, connection.

If you’re curious about yoga, I’m delighted you’ve found this page (and amazed you read this far – thank you!). I’m Virginia Hill, the passionate momentum behind AHA Yoga, and I have dedicated myself to teaching yoga because it has changed my life and those of my students.
Simply put, yoga WORKS. It is indeed a practice, which means it requires curiosity and the willingness to try – again and again – so we cultivate an ever-increasing understanding not just of yoga, but ourselves and why we are here.
The deepest benefits can work cumulative, surprising, and lasting change. I KNOW HOW TO GET YOU MORE IMMEDIATE TRANSFORMATION! You need it now; and the world needs YOU, now.
Suddenly, as my practice became more integrated and well-rounded, I experienced what even the simplest yogic techniques have to offer: Yoga encourages physical mobility and comfort and, most importantly, offers a disciplined, creative use of a now peaceful mind. It is a way to heal, and also reach your greater potential.
It’s with this knowledge and visceral, energetic experience that I created this Saturday morning session that focuses on the central channel, so that each student can explore the deeper dimensions of yoga that are rarely taught in quick classes.
Yoga is an integrative practice that nourishes our being on all levels – from physical to subtle to spiritual – and it is THIS integration is what guides us from rooted wisdom to collective awakening.

Trust your decision to remove the veils that hide your greatness, and you will re-discover what’s been waiting all along.
